Walking the streets of Santa Barbara recently, I was shocked and surprised by the things some people do. Coming from Houston where pedestrians are considered UFO’s, it was a very pleasant experience to stroll around shopping and people watch. It also made me wonder about attitudes and perspectives…..
I was sitting in a cafe looking at the world go by when a 40 something year-old man pulled up on his bike with a 7 foot Colombian boa constrictor around his neck. He proceeded to park the bike and stand on the street while the reptile slithered around his outstretched arms immediately attracting a crowd.
Within minutes people were taking pictures, petting the snake and asking if they could hold it for a photo op. Many people freaked out and recoiled from the scene (pun intended), however others were fascinated, grabbing the opportunity to record the scenario for bragging rights.
How often have you said ‘no’ too quickly to a project/invitation/event because it was outside your norm? Are you quick to criticize, condemn or judge someone because they have a different opinion from you? Maybe it’s time for an attitude adjustment.
Times are changing rapidly these days. Change is the new norm. New ways of working and new ways of looking at situations are part of what it takes to get the job, keep the customer and thrive in today’s society. The right attitude is all about staying humble, likable and teachable….
Dining with dogs? Hey, it happens.
