Bye Bye 2016 with the same ol’ habit of me, me, me.
Hello 2017. The theme is thoughtful. The point is change.
Speaking at the December meeting of the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) in Houston, was a lesson in how much the workforce has changed. Although Baby Boomers commanded a strong presence, they took a back seat to allow the Young Pro’s to shine. We talked about teamwork and what it takes to be on a winning team in today’s competitive market: 1) an attitude of being humble, likable & teachable 2) build great relationships with customers & co-workers. I’m a motivational speaker not a rocket scientist and I’ve discovered most people appreciate a reminder about the basics.
Social media has revolutionized the way younger generations communicate which was
Teamwork that rocks! |
made very obvious by the game we played to demonstrate innovation. One team Twittered, Snap Chatted & You Tubed a song in 10 secs flat!
(Watch this one-minute video to see how another team in Alabama handled the challenge of performing the same song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in an innovative way. Hilarious!)
So whassup with the thoughtful theme, you ask? It’s about connecting with people from different generations/cultures/talents. Thinking beyond yourself and winning at what you do as a result.
Last year six people that I knew, died. One of them was just 58 years old. Two committed suicide. Tragic. It got me thinking about the importance of relationships and how we interact with people will be remembered long after we’re gone. We all lead busy lives and sometimes forget that one small gesture can make a huge difference to someone else who maybe in need.
The same principle works in business. Reaching out personally to a customer or team member strengthens the relationship, boosts customer loyalty and promotes productive teamwork. Win/win/win.
2017 is going to see big changes in our government.
Let it also see thoughtful changes in you.
